When I began my captaincy almost 2 months ago I was told by a number of past captains “Enjoy your year, it will go so quickly it will be over before you know it”.
At first it didn’t really sink in. We have all been in similar positions where this type of counselling has been handed down and we take the advice with a pinch of salt so to speak. Well I can honestly say that after serving 1/6th of my term in office already, the guidance received was spot on. Even though October and November would normally be seen to be a time where you could ease yourself into the role, your time is often spent preparing your calendar for the golfing and social events that lie in the 10 months ahead.
As golf is predomniantly a seasonal game you would have thought it would be relatively quiet on the new membership front but i am buoyed by the number of membership interviews I have done since October. Whats more pleasing is that on asking those interviewed why they chose Coventry Hearsall Golf Club they revealed that it was mainly down to the condition of the course and the friendliness of the club members.
We are still slightly under our membership limits in some categories but we are moving in the right direction towards achieving our goals. (Further information regarding membership including category details will be posted soon in the Membership area of this blog site.)
As the lady captain has already mentioned in her November Newsletter Blog, we attended the inaugural Warwickshire Golf Awards that took place at the Belfry Hotel on Friday 18th November. The event saw over 200 people attend from 26 affiliated clubs. It was very pleasing to see so many Hearsall members up on the stage receiving mentions and prizes.
I would personally like to congratulate Tom Ibbertson and Stuart Bloxham who in November won the Bainbridge Shield for the second time in 3 years after also winning in 2013. Well done, the full story of their victory can be found in the Bainbridge Shield post on this blog site.
The St Andrews Texas scramble on Saturday 26th November saw 23 teams of 4 play in the cold but sunny conditions on greens that were as good as they were in September. The results are as follows.
- I Ibbertson, I Crisp, C Brindley & T Coleman with a great score of 55.3 (winning £30 voucher each)
- S Rafferty, P Clifford & N Burdett with a score of 56.1 on count back. (winning £20 voucher each)
- M Morrissey, J Butler, G McDaid & I Robertson also with a score of 56.1 (winning £10 voucher each)
I would like to thank Colin Brindley and Michael Morrissey for kindly donating their vouchers towards the captains’ charity which as you know is Dementia UK.
