ENGLAND SCHOOLS CALL UP FOR HEARSALL’S IBBERTSON TWINS!

Coventry Hearsall twins Harry and Tom Ibbertson have both been called up by England Schools. Tom is in the team that take on Wales at St Pierre GC, Chepstow on 23rd August, while Harry will face Scotland at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire on 13th September.

The 18 year olds representing Solihull College, took their first step towards qualifying by finishing in the top four of the Warwickshire Schools Championship at Rugby in April, Tom winning a sudden-death play-off and Harry finishing third.

The Midlands finals at Ingon Manor saw Tom again victorious in a play-off while Harry was sixth. They passed the final test by finishing in the top 15 of the English Schools National Championships at John O’Gaunt GC in Bedfordshire, Harry carding a 36 hole total of 148, while Tom shot 149.

Tom Retains His County Boys Title

Talented Coventry Hearsall 17 year old Tom Ibbertson retained the Warwickshire Boys (Under 18) Strokeplay Championship at a wet and windy Walmley Golf Club.

Double winners of this title are rare, with only three previous double winners, namely current European Tour professionals Steve Webster and Sam Walker, and former tour professional Pip Elson.

The team of three from Hearsall, Harry and Tom Ibbertson and Rhys Lawrence also retained the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup for the best combined gross score, holding off a strong challenge from the home trio from Walmley.

Below is Tom with the trophy

South Warwickshire Junior League - 2009
The Hearsall Junior Team have retained the junior league title.
This is now the fourth consecutive year that we have won the league, and our fifth title in the last 6 years.

We once again used home advantage to help pick up the title, having a perfect six wins out of six at home.

It is getting tougher each year, but as our “low men”, Tom and Harry Ibbertson and Will Smith are still eligible to play for the team next year, let’s see! (Although we may have to start paying them appearance money!!).

Captains Charity 2008-9

The Hearsall Golf Club Captain and Lady Captain chose to raise money for the Battens Disease Family Association and on October 4th were pleased to present the charity with a cheque for £6100. Battens disease affects the nervous system in a small number of children and there is yet no cure. The charity is close to the Lady Captains heart as two of her grandchildren, Amy and Oliver are affected.

Ryder Cup Replica.

Ethel Moffat presented a replica Ryder Cup to our Captain in a recent ceremony at our Club.

Her late husband Ralph was our Professional for over 25 years and played alongside Peter Alliss et al in the 1961 Ryder Cup.

Ethel felt that the replica should "Come home to Hearsall" and Captain JJ was delighted and proud to accept the replica on your behalf and will soon get it placed in a prominent position in the entry foyer.

This historic artefact of golf folkore will be one of the first items visitors will see on entering our Club - how others would like to have such an item!

We are privileged to be a part of Golf`s history.

Mens B Team

CHGC`s B Team assembled in their finery at a recent get together.

(Thanks to Carl Semple for providing the Tea`ms shirts at a most reasonable price!)

B team golf is essentially "Competitive but with a Social Edge" and is usually played by members who have double figure handicaps.  Matches are played against a host of other local Clubs stretching from Maxstoke & The Forest to The Weclombe & Hinckley as well as our more immediate neighbours.  The usually start between 3.30p.m. and 4.00 p.m. and are always followed by a Dinner - Team selection assumes that players will dine with their opponents.

Captain David Ward and Vice Captain Mel Heseltine would welcome enquiries from new members and anyone else who would like to represent our Club at this level.

The 200 Club has been re-formed.  This was a very successful lottery within HGC, which raised funds for use by the Club. We currently gave over 160 members and so there are still number available.
