Ryder Cup Replica

Ethel Moffat presented a replica Ryder Cup to our Captain in a recent ceremony at our Club.
Her late husband Ralph was our Professional for over 25 years and played alongside Peter Alliss et al in the 1961 Ryder Cup.
Ethel felt that the replica should "Come home to Hearsall" and Captain JJ was delighted and proud to accept the replica on your behalf and will soon get it placed in a prominent position in the entry foyer.
This historic artefact of golf folkore will be one of the first items visitors will see on entering our Club - how others would like to have such an item!
We are privileged to be a part of Golf`s history.
Mens B Team

This year`s CHGC`s B Team assembled in their finery at a recent get together.
(Thanks to Carl Semple for providing the Tea`ms shirts at a most reasonable price!)
B team golf is essentially "Competitive but with a Social Edge" and is usually played by members who have double figure handicaps. Matches are played against a host of other local Clubs stretching from Maxstoke & The Forest to The Weclombe & Hinckley as well as our more immediate neighbours. The usually start between 3.30p.m. and 4.00 p.m. and are always followed by a Dinner - Team selection assumes that players will dine with their opponents.
Captain Paul Gardner would welcome enquiries from new members and anyone else who would like to represent our Club at this level.
Captains Challenge

The first of this season`s Challenges was met last Friday when The Captain & President were challenged by "Devious Des Carroll" and "Jammy Jason Dunn".
The above photograph shows the jocular mood before Jason offered to pay £2 if we`d pay £8 BEFORE a ball had been struck!! So a Challenge for £10 per man to The Captain`s Charity of The Air Ambulance was struck and the underhand tactics of the Challengers were set in stone. The pair of them were also seen PRACTISING on the Putting green – totally against the ethics of such a match!!
In fairness Captain & President were still in the game until the FIRST green. Thereafter they were playing "Catch Up" golf as young Dunn used the far too many strokes he`d been given and Des as ever belied his currently ridiculous handicap. The Captain & president clearly were mugged and there may be a strong case for Jo Settle (Handicap Sec) to step in and save us some Sterling before the next Challenge.
This could be from YOU AND A FRIEND as the offer is open to ALL Club members. Essentially we will play for whatever sum you suggest (just remember we are two "Poor Pensioners!") and the losers pay the money into the Club office for the Charity account. You will realise that john and I are £10 light as a result of last Friday`s uneven contest.
The day finished off with dinner at the Club so that a most enjoyable time was concluded in an appropriate manner. Rumours of The Captain`s stability at the end of the evening are quite scurrilous!
Mixed Open
The first Mixed Open of the season was rained off on Sunday May 25th as typical Bank Holiday weather deluged the course. Rain itself can never close a Competition but even our extremely well drained course and Greens could not tolerate the unusually high rates of precipitation. The Competition started on time, albeit in continuous rain, but by 1.15 p.m. the 8th Green had become unplayable with absolutely NO possible alternative lines of relief putting. Referee Vice Captain Bob Esslemont was summoned and duly arrived via Danny Collins` buggy with the flaps wrapped all around. Bob cut an especially fine dash as he drove through the ridge and furrows creating bow waves and he reminded those present of Celine Deon on the prow of the Titanic!!
The Competition has been rescheduled for Sunday August 25th and the necessary Notice and Application form can be downloaded from the link below.
Some of the original entries are unable to make the amended date so please feel free to send in your Application asap and join what is always a friendly and happy occasion.
We have compacted the tee times as a result so send your forms with your details and those of a pair of friends where possible to the Secretary at the Club
Consideration is being given as to whether the 2000 Club should be re-formed. This was a very successful lottery within HGC, which raised funds for use by the Club.
•To run this again, we would need a minimum of 150 members, to pay by Direct Debit, £50 yearly or £25 half-yearly. (Starting June 2008)
•Based on 150 members, we could offer prizes as follows:
•1 New Year prize of £1,000
•1 mid year prize of £500
•12 monthly £100 prizes
•12 monthly £50 prizes
•12 monthly £25 prizes
If you are interested, please sign the form in the entrance hall and you will be contacted.
